FAQS
The Answers You Need
Are you legally able to marry us?
Yes. My authority to marry in Louisiana stems from my role as Justice of the Peace. In Louisiana, a Justice of the Peace is a Judge in a court of limited jurisdiction (small claims court) and has the authority to perform wedding ceremonies.
What do we need to do before you can marry us?
1. Choose a wedding date, location and fill out the "Contact Me" form at IDoUnions.com.
2. Obtain a marriage license from a Parish Clerk of Court in Louisiana.
3. Generally, couples must obtain a license no less than one day before the ceremony as there is a 24 hour waiting period. The waiting period can be waived, but it must be for good cause. The better practice is to obtain the license about 2 weeks before the ceremony. The license expires at the end of 30 days.
4. You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a marriage license without judicial consent.
Is there a travel fee?
Yes. If the distance between your wedding venue and my office is 20 miles or more, then there will be a travel fee charged. This fee is in addition to the cost of the ceremony. There is no travel fee charged for getting married at my office. **Please note there is also an additional fee if the wedding is outside.**
What are the costs?
Please fill out the contact form, call or email for pricing.
